The Department for European Affairs of Libya’s Transitional National Council’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has notified the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the Libyan Representation in Poland will be upgraded to the rank of Embassy.
"Having regard to the historic relations between Libya and Poland as well as Poland’s position supporting Libya ever since the beginning of the revolution on 17 February and its early recognition of the Transitional National Council as the representative of the Libyan nation, and with a view to supporting these relations and their development, a decision has been made to advance the rank of the diplomatic representation in the Republic of Poland from the Economic Cooperation Bureau to the rank of Embassy and to establish a joint Libyan-Polish commission headed by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries", reads the note, dated 27 October 2011.
The decision represents the fulfilment of the proposals put forward by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski during his visit to Libya on 24 October 2011 and of the declarations made then by the Chairman of the Transitional National Council Mustafa Abd al-Jalil. The immediate enforcement of the decision remains unprecedented.
