Libya's General National Congress (GNC) has elected Ali Zeidan [Zidan] as new Prime Minister-elect.
The independent MP, regarded as a liberal, won 93 votes, beating the 85 votes received by his opponent Mohammed al-Harari.
Zeidan replaces Mustafa Abushagur [Abu Shagur] who was dismissed last week after losing a no confidence vote following the rejection of his proposed cabinet.
A rights lawyer, Zeidan lost a bid to become President in August, when he was beaten by Mohamed Yousef Magariaf [Magarief] by 113 votes to 85.
His top priority in the short term will be to get approval from congress for his cabinet.
