Prime Minister Ali Zidan [Zeidan] has said that Libya may resort to asking foreign companies to tender for the disposal of garbage.
According to a report from Libya Herald, rubbish is piling up in towns and cities throughout the country, with even the central reservations of some major roads being lined with rubbish bags left by residents who have nowhere else to put them.
The small band of rubbish collectors, mainly Bangladeshis, do not have the capacity to remove all the waste. Zidan has said that the government is urgently studying the issue and that if local companies proved incapable of dealing with it foreign companies will be asked to take over the work.
