Video: Libyan Ties of Mali Islamists

The Malian Prime Minister has paid a visit to French troops at an airbase in Bamako, during which he and African heads of state were to pledge about 5,000 troops from across the region to help in the effort to push back Islamist militants.

France has carried out air strikes and scrambled ground troops to halt an Islamist advance, acting to prevent militants from tightening their grip on Mali's northern desert zone and using it as a springboard for attacks in Africa and on the West:
