The Libyan Iron & Steel Co (LISCO) produced almost 50,000 tonnes of steel in December, reports Libya Herald.
A company executive told Platts that in the last month of the year, 12,199 tonnes of slabs and 37,232 tonnes of billets had been produced.
Four of its six electric arc furnaces now back in operation, and all long and flat product mills are now working with the exception of the hot-dip galvanising line and double-strand line.
The company has a design capacity of 1,324,000 tons of liquid steel, and with around 6,500 workers it is the largest employer in Libya. It resumed exports of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Europe and Turkey, and since February 2012 it has sent out around 240,000 tonnes of HBI.
