Tug Malta Rescues Ships off Libyan Coast

Two Tug Malta vessels have been involved in operations off the Libyan coast in recent days.

The Tugboat Spinola successfully assisted SMIT Salvage to re-float the bulk carrier Tasman Sea, which had run aground in Tripoli harbour with a cargo of grain. No injuries, pollution or damage to the cargo was reported.

Meanwhile, the MT St Elmo (pictured) responded to a call from Malta Motorways of the Seas, a Grimaldi Group company, to tow its ro-ro cargo vessel the Setubal Express from Khoms to Malta for repairs.

The voyage is expected to start as soon as the towage survey is completed. Tugboat St Elmo and Setubal Express are expected back in Malta in the coming days.
