According to UPI, Libya maintains strong support from the Italian energy company Eni as a source of stable and secure natural gas supplies.
Eni Chief Executive Officer Paolo Scaroni (pictured) met with Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zidan [Zeidan], Petroleum Minister Dr. Abdulbari Alarusi [Al Arusi] and National Oil Corporation (NOC) Chairman Nuri Balrwin [Nuri Berruien] this week in Tripoli to recognize the return of operations at the Mellitah complex. The facility is run through a joint venture between Eni and the NOC.
The reopening of Libyan gas exports to Italy from the Mellitah plant, and the meeting between government officials and company executives underscores the importance of Libya as a secure source of gas supplies to Italy. Prior to the beginning of the civil war in February 2011, Italy received almost 10 percent of its natural gas via Libya's Greenstream pipeline.
