An official session of talks was conducted between the Sultanate and Libya at the Council of Ministers HQs' in Muscat on Sunday. The Omani side was led by His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, while the Libyan side was led by Dr Mohammed bin Yousef al Magariaf, Chairman of the Libyan National Congress.
His Highness Sayyid Fahd welcomed the guest and his accompanying delegation and reviewed the historic relations and the fraternal bonds between the two brotherly countries. He congratulated the Al Magariaf and members of the National Congress for the trust of the Libyan people in their role that aims at promoting all tracks of development in the country. He affirmed the Sultanate's keenness to develop the bilateral relations in various fields to serve the joint interest of both peoples.
On his part, Al Magariaf expressed his joy over this visit and hailed the comprehensive development and achievements made by the Sultanate at the domestic and foreign fronts under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, thus enhancing its expertise in many fields. He then explained the current situation in Libya and the efforts made to ensure development. The session also covered issues of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the Sultanate and Libya, especially those related to activating the joint cooperation agreements and benefiting from the Sultanate's experience in the legislative, economic and service fields.
The meeting also discussed latest developments witnessed by the region and their implication on security and stability. From the Omani side, the session was attended by the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, Minister of Oil and Gas, Minister of Manpower (Head of the mission of honor accompanying the guest), the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Minister of Social Development, the Minister of Information, Assistant Secretary General for the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Cabinet Affairs and the Sultanate's accredited ambassador to Libya.
From the Libyan side, the session was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Minister of State for the General National Congress Affairs, a number of members of the National Congress and advisors of the Chairman. Later, Al Magariaf and his delegation accompanied by Shaikh Abdullah bin Nasser al Bakri, Minister of Manpower, Head of the Mission of Honour Accompanying the guest, visited the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, the Royal Opera House Muscat and the new building of the Council of Oman.
