The China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) has signed an agreement with the Libya Ministry of Housing to resume work on 20,000 housing units in Benghazi.
Libya Herald reports that the projects are in the Gwarsha and Khadra districts.
Work on the scheme had been halted by the revolution, and had not yet been re-started due to disagreements over compensation and increased costs.
Housing and Utilities Minister, Ali Sharif, said the company had agreed to deliver the first 1,500 units as soon as possible, and described the deal as a “second profitable chance” for CSCEC.
The question of compensation has been resolved by giving the company an additional contract to install the infrastructure for the project "provided that such an agreement helps accelerate implementation of the project."
