Prime Minister Ali Zeidan (pictured) has nominated Mohamed Khalifa Sheikh to the position of Interior Minister, and asked the General National Congress (GNC) to swear him into office as soon as possible, probably on Sunday.
Sheikh replaces Ashour Shuail [Shuwail], who resigned following the passing of the Political Isolation Law. Shuail, who has a PhD in Law from Egypt, had worked with the police authority for 35 years.
According to Libya Herald, Khalifa Sheikh is from Suq Al-Jumaa, which could help rally support from this key district to the government. He had been an assistant to former Interior Minister Fawzi Abdelal, but there were personal differences between the two which resulted to Sheikh’s departure.
