GNC President Nouri Abu Sahmein has appointed Major-General Abdulsalam Jadallah al-Salihine al-Obeidi to replace Youssef al-Mangoush as the new head of the Libyan army.
The former army chief resigned in early June after violent militia clashes in Benghazi left 31 people dead and a hundred wounded.
According to Magherabia, the 53-year-old army chief is a Benghazi native who served in Special Forces before joining the rebellion in 2011.
