Libya's first outbreak of the H5N1 highly pathogenic avian flu (bird flu) has been reported in a village poultry flock in Tubruq.
The veterinary authority sent an immediate notification to the World Organisation of Animal Production (OIE).
The outbreak started on 4 March at Kroum Alkhai, with a total of 19 birds from a flock of 45 local backyard chickens and five ducks were affected, 15 of which died and the rest of which have been destroyed.
