Libya's internationally-recognised government is said to be considering creating a free trade zone in the Gulf of Bomba, between Torbuk and Derna.
Libya Herald reports that a presentation proposing the idea was made by the Ministry of Economy and Industry at the cabinet earlier this week in Beida.
Among the advantages of the area for such a zone are the presence of Maturba airport nearby, a sheltered bay would make a good harbour, and the fact that it is just 285 kilometers from Crete.
The only currently-functioning free trade zone in the country is in Misrata (pictured).
