Islamic State (IS, ISIS, ISIL) militants claim to have seized Sirte airport.

According to BBC News, most of Sirte, the home town of the former leader Muammar Gaddafi, fell to IS last week.

Internationally recognized Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni accused Libya Dawn militias of ‘’a very great complicity’’ in the ‘’direct handing over’’ of the city of Sirte to IS.

In a statement, the group said it had also seized the Great Man Made River water project, the world's largest irrigation project, which supplies fresh water to Libyan cities.
