Mogherini calls for final text to be agreed as soon as possible
It is time for courageous and responsible choices for Libya, EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini has said, calling for the approval “as soon as possible” of “the text presenting an inclusive, representative and long-term oriented solution.”
“The text, prepared thanks to the unrelenting efforts of UN SRSG Bernardino Leon, has to be agreed as soon as possible, as well as the names for the senior political positions, so that a new Government of National Accord can be formed without further delay. This will allow all Libyans to be united in their efforts to tackle the serious political, economic, security and, increasingly, humanitarian crisis,” said Mogherini.
The EU High Representative reaffirmed EU support to the Libyans. “We continue to actively support the negotiations and we stand ready to provide immediate support to the new government, notably with a substantial €100 million package to support Libya on its new course.”
