The Mayor of Tripoli has called on officials in Brussels to re-open a delegation in Tripoli.
Addressing a meeting of representatives of the Euro-Mediterranean Regional and Local Assembly (ARLEM) at the EU Committee of the Regions, Abdlrauf Beitelmal [Abdul Rauf Beitelmal] said:
''I don't see why the EU should not do it ...
''The situation in Libya isn't as bad as it is depicted -- it is quite safe in Tripoli."
Italy's ANSAmed news agency quotes him as saying that the way to put the country back on its feet is to start with local governments.
