Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat met with Libyan Prime Minister designate Fayez Serraj during a lightning visit to Tripoli this morning.
At the short meeting at a naval base near Mitiga International Airport, Muscat said that Malta was willing to reopen its diplomatic mission in Tripoli, but would only do so if the safety of Maltese diplomats could be ensured.
The visit follows the refusal of the Maltese authorities to allow the Indian-registered tanker Distya Ameya to enter Maltese waters after it had loaded crude oil from Tobruk’s Hariga terminal for export by the Beida government’s National Oil Corporation (NOC).
