The third officer aboard a Turkish freighter has been killed, and other crew members injured, after it came under artillery and aerial fire near the eastern port of Tobruk late on Sunday.
The 4,276 gt Tuna 1, which was carrying gypsum from Spain to Libya, was reported to be in international waters, 13 nautical miles off the coast.
Turkey criticised what it called an "atrocious" act.
A spokesman for the Tobruk government said the ship was destined for Derna. "We have warned before about approaching Derna port," Mohamed Hejazi told Reuters news agency.
