As part of its efforts to support the local authorities to provide better services to citizens, the Stabilization Facility for Libya (SFL), led by the Government of National Accord (GNA), today handed over the rehabilitated Women’s Centre in Ubari municipality.
Ms. Fatma Masoud, Mr. Abubaker Ganso and Mr. Omar Kouki, members of Ubari Municipal Council, inaugurated the centre, which will serve as a space to host educational and awareness activities for women. Civil society organizations and elderly representatives also attended the event.
At the event, Ms. Fatma stated:
"I would like to share my joy with all the women gathered here today. I thank all those who supported women in Ubari by rehabilitating this Women Center, the first space for women in our city, to enable them to develop their skills in order to integrate themselves into the local and national labor market."
During the opening ceremony, several women’s organizations from Ubari showcased their talents through a handicraft exhibition of traditional tools and decorative items. Aiming at teaching and learning income- generating skills, women from different ages and backgrounds came together to the centre.
"As a civil society activist, I would like to express my gratitude for the opening of this center, which is a first step towards building the capacities of women in Ubari and ensuring their participation in public life."
The Stabilization Facility for Libya has rehabilitated not only the Women’s Centre, but Al-Qurania, Almarkazeiha and Althanwia schools, and Ubari General Hospital. It is now repairing the public market. The Facility has also provided the municipality with a garbage truck, a pesticide vehicle and two generators.
The General Hospital received two ambulances, which transport per month an average of 90 patients from Ubari, Ghrifa and Bent Baya to Sebha, Murzuq, Ghat and Tripoli. The units rehabilitated by SFL in Ubari are already serving 30,000 inhabitants. The Facility is planning to provide more equipment and furnishings for the women’s centre this year.
