Four civil society organizations from the cities of Misrata, Tripoli and Sebha have received technical training in video production and public messaging, with a grant from the United States' Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).
The six-week workshop is part of a comprehensive program, VOICE (Voter Ownership and Increasing Civic Participation), implemented by Creative Associates International and their technical partner, Barefoot Workshops.
Since June 24th, members of Libyan Scouts, Free Generation Movement, Sebha Youth Forum and The Libyan Organization for Administration and Human Capacity Development have produced twelve public service announcements on topics including electoral education, voter participation, and rule of law.
Five of the public service announcements aired on national television channels, Rasmiya, Wataniya, and Libya Awalan, leading up to the elections on July 7th. An additional seven public service announcements and two short docu-dramas will premiere on Sunday, August 12, 2012.
The short films are dedicated to the topics of democratic governance and citizen participation in mine risk education, and are likely the first dramas created by Libyan citizens since the revolution.
