A joint operation by Libya's Border Force and Air Defence Unit put a stop to one of the largest human trafficking operations ever seen in the country, according to unconfirmed reports.
According to Libya Herald, Muftah Omar Hamza, commander of the Ali Hassan Al-Jaber Battalion, said that a raid was carried out south of the Emsaed crossing on the Egyptian border, involving Battalion 71 of the Border Force and a MiG-21 fighter jet.
Around 120 illegal immigrants, most of whom are thought to be from Bangladesh, were reported to be captured. He said that the operation would continue in order to track down all the smugglers involved and that the border crossing would remain under tight security.
