The Qatar-based Al Meera chain of consumer co-operative stores is planning to set up branches abroad, initially in Egypt and Libya, according to Gulf Times.
The expansion would be in co-operation with local developers and international retail traders.
The Deputy Board chairman of Al Meera stores, Dr Saif Saeed al-Suweidi said:
“Our expansion schemes have not yet been finalised but we are eager to emerge as a key player in retail trading in this region. ‘Al Meera’ is our trademark name and we will retain it wherever we go. But we have in the case of our recent collaboration with a French firm agreed to operate under the name ‘Casino’ in view of the well-established business entity popular under that brand name,” said Dr al-Suweidi."
