Libya's Ministry of Agriculture is planning a national forestation campaign, to be carried out over the next 12 months.
The scheme will include the planting of 5 million seedlings provided by the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture.
According to Libya Herald, during the Qaddafi era there was considerable loss of tree cover due to a general lack of interest in the agriculture sector, the unregulated suburban sprawl into the countryside, and increasing salinity of the water table around Tripoli.
