The foundation stone for the new Obari [Ubari] gas-fired power station was laid on Monday.
Among the attendees were Deputy Prime Minister Awad Albarasi, Minister of Housing and Utilities Ali Sharif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohammed Khalat, and the Chairman of the Executive Board of Director of GECOL Khalil Alaradi.
The plant will have a total capacity of 640 megawatts.
Mr Khalat also said that a solar power station would be built to the south of Obari.
