Members of the Tarhuna municipal council, the local water company and project engineers from Tripoli have met to discuss and identify a drop in the local water pressure and recent supply interruptions.
Tarhuna has a population of approximately 300,000, and the surrounding area consists of farmland that produces olive oil, cereals, grapes, figs and esparto grass. Over 3,000 hectares in the area are usually devoted to cereal production, but yields have been low due in part to irrigation problems.
