Libya plans to build a new 60,000-seater stadium in order to host the 2017 African Nations Cup finals, said sports minister Abdussalam Guaila, with a second 23,000-seat stadium planned for Misrata.
Matches are also to be held in Benghazi, the Libya news agency reported.
The announcement comes shortly after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decided to allow continental club matches to be held in the nation for the first time since the revolution.
Libya had originally been scheduled to host the 2013 Nations Cup but the uncertain security situation in the country saw it swap with South Africa, who had been listed to host the 2017 event.
