Production at Libya's major El Feel [El Fil, Elephant] oilfield has been shut down on Thursday, according to a report from Reuters.
Industry sources told the news agency that production was stopped as a precaution due to protests at the site by local communities.
Around 50 protesters, some armed, have been staging a demonstration at the site, demanding an NOC representative office in the south of the country, as well as jobs for locals and the payment of salaries.
The field, which has a capacity 130,000 bpd, had most recently been operating at about 74,000 bpd. It is operated by Mellitah - a joint venture between Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) and Italy's Eni.
