The United States, the United Kingdom, Italy and France have issued a joint statement on the Situation in Libya:
We stand with Libyans as they continue on their challenging democratic transition.
We will continue to work closely with the government of Libya in its efforts to restore security, build its institutions, and deliver vital goods and services to the people of Libya.
We have watched with growing concern the ongoing disruption of Libyan energy exports over the past month.
Libya’s energy resources are a vital source of the country’s national wealth and belong to the Libyan people; the continued flow of these energy resources is of critical importance to Libya’s efforts to lay the foundations of a secure, stable and prosperous state committed to democracy, good governance, the rule of law, national reconciliation and respect for human rights, and the fundamental freedoms of all Libyans. A healthy economy is a fundamental pillar of security.
We support the efforts of Prime Minister Zeidan and the Libyan government to resolve the disruptions of Libya’s energy exports peacefully and as quickly as possible, and call on all Libyans to avoid divisions, to stand behind their legitimate government and to consider the national interest of their country.
