The EU-funded Spring Forward for Women programme has contributed to the organisation of a training programme on Conflict Resolution and Mediation Skills for a group of Libyan women activists.
The workshop targeted 25 women, from different parts of the country, and aimed at enhancing their capacities in negotiation and mediation skills utilising interactive adult learning approaches, and examining international perspectives on conflict resolution and mediation by looking at cases from Rwanda, Liberia and Darfur.
Participants were also exposed to strategic advocacy and lobbying techniques in order to support them in their ongoing work as peace agents. This event builds on the progress attained in the Libyan Political Dialogue through qualifying women to play a more active and influential role in bringing peace and stability to Libya.
Spring Forward for Women is a joint initiative of UN Women and the European Commission. The programme supports the economic empowerment of women in the Southern Mediterranean region and enhances their participation in the political and decision-making spheres.
The programme is financed through a contribution of €7 million from the European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument (ENPI) and of €1.2 million from the UN Women core budget.
