A European Union Spokesperson has made the following statement on the death sentences issued on Tuesday in Tripoli:
“The European Union is seeking clarity regarding the deaths sentences issued by a Court in Tripoli against a number of people including Saif al-Islam [the son of Col Gaddafi].
"As reported by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, there are concerns regarding the due process leading to these sentences.
"The European Union is against death penalty and all Libyan parties should maintain the de facto moratorium which has prevailed since the 2011 Revolution until now.
The European Union condemns the extra judicial killings which continue to take place in Libya.”
